This piece began without a fixed plan or predetermined outcome. I started by choosing a limited palette of colours and making instinctive marks, allowing each gesture to respond to what was already on the surface. Rather than working towards a clear image, I let the painting evolve slowly, layer by layer, embracing uncertainty as part of the process.
As the work developed, earlier marks were partially covered, reworked, or left to show through, creating a sense of history within the surface. This back-and-forth approach became central to the piece, where decisions were made in the moment rather than mapped out in advance.
It reflects something most of us can relate to—not having everything figured out, but continuing anyway. There is a quiet acceptance in not knowing exactly where things are heading, and a trust that meaning can emerge through action rather than planning. Sometimes the only way to discover where you’re going is to simply begin, and allow the process itself to guide you forward.
